Community Service Options: Use your skills!

1. Volunteer in Spanish

Volunteering is an exceptional way to achieve greater fluency. Choose a field that you are interested in and ask if there are bilingual opportunities. Visit the local government offices or public library for ways to support your community.

  • Work  with  disadvantaged children

  • Volunteer at a hospital

  • Volunteer at a shelter

2. Connect with Fellow Spanish Language Learners

  •  Create an on-campus conversation club that invites parent volunteers who are fluent to talk about the issues of the day.

  • Use Edmodo (a closed Facebook forum)  to may make a new friend

3. Strike Up a Conversation with a Native Speaker

  •  striking up a friendly conversation with native speakers in a business you frequent.

  • Make friends

4. Host an Exchange Student

  • Our Spanish and German teachers will let you know when the Germans and Spaniards are visiting RBHS. Sign up and your visitor shares some of the wonderful things about his/her  culture and language and so do you! It is an excellent way to reinforce what you learn in your  class and will make a difference in someone else’s travel and cultural experiences.

These suggestions are just scratching the surface of the possibilities available to you for putting your Spanish into action in your community.

*As always, be careful and vigilant. NEVER share personal information with any stranger.
